Initial Planning Meeting
A meeting Tuesday, December 7th in New Orleans at the JA-SIG Winter conference was attended by Peter Kharchenko, Ken Weiner, Eric Dalquist, Andrew Petro, Michael Ivanov and Mark R. Boyd to discuss Aggregated Layout Management and an effort to merge the versions had by JA-SIG and Sungard SCT.
The take-aways from this meeting are:
- Developers need more information to understand the Sungard SCT model.
- Once the uPortal developers better understand the Sungard SCT model we will decide to use either the Sungard SCT model or the JA-SIG model as a base and then add features needed from the other version to support backward compatibility.
- Sungard SCT has a large number of installed institutions using their version of ALM and hence needs a migration path for all current features in the resulting merged ALM.
- Core developers have time to commit to this effort possibly for the next month and a half hence the urgency to get moving on this effort.
Assignments:
- Mark Boyd will document the data model used in the Sungard SCT model, provide the code for perusal, and provide documentation on how the model works. The anticipated completion for this item is 12/16. Artifacts will be posted here.
- Mark will then package up the Sungard SCT model to work in uPortal and check in this version with instructions on how to configure its use. This will serve to let others kick the tires of the feature.
- Others will review the information and decide which code to use as a base and outline further actions and assignments.
