Winter 2007 UnConference Scheduling Grid

UnConferences are only loosely structured, and so we don't mean to schedule out every minute in detail, but we do mean to broadly define what's going on at what time blocks. That is, the contents of the freeform collaboration blocks are freeform, but those freeform blocks are themselves scheduled, and some blocks are more formally scheduled.

How to use these pages

Take a look at these activity ideas, comment, add your own. And if you're thinking you may participate in the Unconference, be sure to sign up on the participants page.

Looking to give a Lightning Talk?

Awesome! Ideally, every participant will be prepared to give a Lightning talk, and while many will fit into the schedule slots designated for these, there will be other unscheduled time where the thing you and others at the event decide to do might very well be to discuss your talk.

Lightning talk topic proposing, encouraging, and requesting is happening at this wiki page. Lightning talks don't necessarily have to come from that prior planning, but it's best if you share your idea and invite feedback before the UnConference.

Having more structure early in the agenda to get things off to a good start, and periodic structure to bring things back together, seems a good idea.

U-Camp - Any ideas on time slot?

The U-Camp needs to be scheduled.  From the above listed topics it seems like Wednesday might be open.  We should choose a time slot.  We are starting to form a planning committee for the U-Camp and choosing topics and discussions.  Please join in and help decide what is discussed at this U-Camp and how best to make it helpful to the JA-Sig community.

Perhaps also some kind of informal registration - I'm thinking more of a "dump your contact information on this semi-private wiki page" (shared password for people at the event, or create a confluence group for attendees maybe to collect IM, Cell#, Room#, other information to encourage interaction & possibly followup contacts post-event.

Would it work better with a couple of smaller rooms or one large room? Smaller rooms might be more productive a large room would be more fluid and dynamic. People could move more easily from one topical area to another. A large room might be too loud? This wasn't a problem at all in Denver.

+1 for a large single space

Thoughts – Rutgers is pretty close to NYC and some other areas – starting a bit later 9:30AM? might make it easier for people coming in, but not staying overnight to participate.

In this format I wonder if we should deliberately not schedule breaks for coffee/snacks – and perhaps just have some light coffee & drinks always available?
